Day Seven and Eight

It's the beginning of the end here in Latvia. Yesterday's Bible lesson was the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Besides the Bible lesson, the classes are getting ready for the final program tonight. Each class will come up with a skit to perform during the closing program. Tomorrow we have invited the students to come to church where we will sing a few songs during the service. What an amazing way to end a great week here in Sloka!

Day Six

It's hard to believe that we are half way through our trip to Latvia. The English camp has only two more full days before our morning lessons on Saturday and afternoon skits. Yesterdays Bible lesson was Jesus feeding the 5000 and today the students will be learning about Jesus healing the Paralytic.

Day Five

Last night we enjoyed watching the sunset over the Baltic Sea. The sun doesn't set until around 10 p.m. here in Latvia. Even though it was in the 50s, some in our group decided to go swimming. Brrrr!

Day Four

We had a good first day at camp. The students had English lessons in the morning, followed by Bible lessons in the afternoon. Yesterday's Bible story was the birth of Jesus. After the lessons the classes broke into groups. One group went to sports while the other group went to crafts. We ended the day with singing. After dinner, we had Bible study where we talked about Jesus feeding the five thousand (John 6:1-15).

Today we are excited to have another day of English camp. We had four new students join us. The Bible lesson for today is the Good Samaritan.

 

Day Three- First day of classes

This morning we had testing to see which class the students would be placed. After the testing the students decorated a name tag to be used for the rest of the week. This was followed by singing led by Jim. Once we were done singing, the students met their teachers and had an hour of classes.

Day Two

This morning we had a wonderful time worshiping at Sloka Lutheran Church. We had the Bible reading printed out for us in English The Old Testament lesson was Joel 3:1-5, the Epistle lesson from Romans 6:19-23, and the Gospel and Sermon text from Matthew 7:15-21. This afternoon we are setting up the tents for English camp. We are looking forward to our first day of classes tomorrow.

Day One

We enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by our Latvian friends last night. The pastor had us go around the circle and introduce ourselves. This was helpful since there were some new faces including some visitors from Germany. After dinner, we sang songs and hymns. Most of the songs were in Latvian and some in English. Today we are looking forward to an excursion and also we are told there is going to be an organ concert tonight. Please continue to pray for us as we adjust to the time change and also for our students who will be arriving bright and early Monday morning.

Arrived in Latvia

Our group has arrived safely in Sloka. All of our bags and supplies made it. We look forward to visiting with our Latvian friends tonight.

One more week
